Some Americans believe we are finally advancing toward fairness, equality, and justice. They see change and feel hope. They support the transformation.
Some Americans believe something is deeply wrong. They watch institutions turn hostile, words change meaning, and their children are taught ideas that feel strange. They sense danger but struggle to name it.
And many Americans are unsure what to believe. They hear competing claims from both sides and don't know who to trust. They want the truth but cannot find solid ground.
All three groups are asking the same question: What is going on?
I can answer that question — because I was there.
